Headstand
Sirsasana
Headstand is the crown of the finishing sequence, balancing inverted on the forearms and the crown of the head with the legs lifted straight up. It builds core and shoulder strength and reverses the pull of gravity through the whole body. Weight stays in the forearms to keep the neck safe.
Alignment cues
- Interlace the fingers and cradle the head, forearms pressing down
- Walk the feet in and lift the legs with control
- Stack hips over shoulders and reach up through the heels
Benefits
- Builds shoulder, arm, and core strength
- Improves balance and concentration
- Offers a fresh perspective through inversion
Modifications
- Practice with the back against a wall while building confidence
- Keep the knees bent and feet on the floor to rehearse the setup
